Multilingual dictation that follows you between languages

Many professionals do not work in one language. A lawyer writes to a client in Spanish and to opposing counsel in English, a physician quotes a patient in Polish inside an English letter, an engineer speaks German with a team and English in the codebase. Stenograph understands more than 50 languages, follows you when you switch in the middle of a sentence and writes each word in the language you said it in.

Switching languages inside one sentence

Most dictation tools ask you to choose a language before you start and then force everything you say into it. Speak a French phrase into an English session and it comes back as English nonsense. Stenograph detects the language as you go. You can begin a sentence in English, quote a term in Portuguese and finish in English again, and each part is written in its own language with its own spelling and accents. There is nothing to toggle and no second pass to fix the foreign words.

  • Detection runs continuously, per phrase, not once per session
  • Accents, diacritics and special characters are written correctly
  • Punctuation follows the conventions of each language
  • Names and terms from your dictionary keep their spelling in every language

Text written in the language you spoke

Stenograph writes what you said, not a translation of it. If you dictate an email in Italian, you get an email in Italian, formatted with an Italian greeting and sign-off. If you dictate notes that mix two languages, the notes keep both. This matters for anything that needs to stay faithful to the speaker: a client's own words, a quote for an article, a patient's description of symptoms. When you do want the text in another language, you can say so as a separate step, and the original stays available.

Languages Stenograph supports

Stenograph covers more than 50 languages, including the ones most often used in US workplaces and in international business.

  • English (US, UK, Australian, Indian and other variants), Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian
  • Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian
  • Ukrainian, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Hebrew, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali
  • Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Tagalog
  • And many more, listed in the app with the full set

Voice commands such as "new paragraph" or "make that a list" work in each supported language. See the voice commands for dictation page for the complete list.

Formatting and writing styles in every language

The structure Stenograph builds does not depend on English. Lists, paragraphs, emails and memos are formatted in whatever language you speak, with dates, numbers and currency written the local way. Writing styles per app work the same way: a message in a team chat stays concise in German, an email to a client stays formal in Spanish. The ai text formatting dictation page explains the structures in more detail.

Multilingual meetings and recording transcription

The same language detection works when you transcribe a meeting recorded on your device or upload an audio or video file. A call that moves between English and Spanish is transcribed in both, with speaker labels and timestamps, and the summary lists decisions and action items. Exports to Word, PDF, TXT and SRT keep each language intact. If you transcribe interviews or international calls, the ai transcription page covers recordings and file uploads.

Who relies on multilingual dictation

  • Attorneys with clients who speak a different first language
  • Clinicians who record a patient's own words alongside clinical notes
  • Managers of teams spread across countries

All plans include every supported language. Pricing starts at 24 USD per month billed yearly; the stenograph pricing page lists the minutes on each plan.

Questions about multilingual dictation

Do I need to pick a language before I speak?

No. Stenograph detects the language as you speak and handles switches inside a sentence. You can set preferred languages in the app to help with short or ambiguous phrases.

Does it translate what I say?

No. Text is written in the language you spoke. Translation is a separate, optional step you request yourself.

Are all languages included in every plan?

Yes. Solo, Pro, Team and Enterprise all include every supported language. Plans differ in minutes, terms and team features, not in languages.

Can I test my languages before paying?

Yes. The one-time demo on the home page has a language select and also detects mixed speech, so you can try a sentence that switches. There is no plan at zero.
