AI meeting note taker that records on your device, not in the call
Many meeting tools send a bot into your video call, and everyone sees an extra participant with a name like Notetaker. Stenograph works differently. You record the meeting on your own computer or phone, and Stenograph turns that recording into a transcript with speaker labels, a short summary, the decisions taken and the action items with owners.
Listening
Why there is no bot joining your calls
A bot in the participant list changes the meeting. Clients ask who it is, external guests decline, and some organizations block unknown participants entirely. Stenograph records through your device instead, capturing your microphone and the system audio of the call on Mac and Windows, or the room through your phone. Nothing is added to the meeting invite and nobody has to admit a stranger. You stay in control of when recording starts and stops, and you remain responsible for telling participants and getting their consent, as you would with any recording.
- No extra participant in the call
- Works with any conferencing tool that plays audio on your computer
- Works for in-person meetings through the phone app
- Recording starts and stops only when you choose
Meeting notes mode in three steps
Open meeting notes mode in the desktop app and press record when the conversation begins. When the meeting ends, press stop. Stenograph processes the recording, separates speakers and produces the notes, usually while you are still closing the call window.
- Start meeting notes mode on your desktop or phone
- Talk as usual, without managing the tool
- Stop recording and open the finished notes
What the notes contain
Every meeting comes back in the same structure, so you always know where to look. At the top is a summary of a few sentences that someone who missed the meeting can read in under a minute. Below it are the decisions, written as plain statements, and the action items, each with the person responsible and a due date when one was mentioned. The full transcript with speaker labels and timestamps sits underneath, for anyone who needs the exact wording.
- Summary written for people who were not there
- Decisions listed separately from discussion
- Action items with owner and date when stated
- Full transcript with speakers and timestamps
Speaker labels you can trust
In a call with four people, a transcript without names is hard to use. Stenograph labels each voice, and you rename the labels once per meeting so the summary and action items refer to real people. Your dictionary is applied to the meeting, so client names, project codes and product terms appear correctly in the notes. Over time, the meetings you record with the same colleagues become easier to label, because you only confirm names that you have already used before.
Where a device based note taker fits best
Recording on the device suits meetings where a bot would be awkward or not allowed. Client calls in law and consulting, where an unknown participant raises questions. Internal leadership meetings, where people speak more freely without a visible recorder in the list. Workshops and interviews held in a room, where there is no call at all. For gatherings around a table, the meeting transcription app page covers phone recording in detail, and the ai meeting notes page shows how the notes become minutes and follow-up emails.
From notes to follow-up without retyping
The notes are a starting point for the work that follows. Copy the action items into your task tool, export the notes to Word or PDF, or ask Stenograph to draft a follow-up email from them, then dictate any changes by voice. Because dictation works at the cursor in any app, adding a sentence to the email is as fast as saying it.
Meeting audio is not kept
Meeting recordings are processed and then the audio is deleted; Stenograph does not store it. The notes and transcript are kept only while text history is on, and you can delete them at any time. Meeting content is never used to train AI models. Notes are encrypted while they travel and while they are stored.
Meeting summaries in every plan
Each plan includes a monthly number of meeting summaries and transcription minutes. Solo includes 30 summaries and 300 minutes, Pro 60 summaries and 900 minutes, Team 200 summaries and 3,000 pooled minutes for up to five people, Enterprise 600 summaries and 10,000 pooled minutes for up to twenty people. Plans start at 24 USD per month billed yearly, and yearly billing saves 50 percent.
Questions about the AI meeting note taker
Does Stenograph join my video calls?
No. There is no bot. You record on your own device, and Stenograph captures your microphone and the call audio playing on your computer.
Do I need to tell participants I am recording?
Yes. Record only with the consent of the participants and follow the rules that apply where you and they are located.
Which conferencing tools does it work with?
Any tool that plays the call audio on your Mac or Windows computer, because recording happens on the device rather than inside the tool.
Can it take notes in a meeting held in another language?
Yes. More than 50 languages are recognized, including meetings where people switch languages. Notes are written in the language spoken.
Can I edit the summary?
Yes. The summary, decisions and action items are editable text, and you can also edit them by voice.
